In Conclusion

...'.The Project has individuality in its design and a worthwhile and distinctive sense of purpose'....

The Proposal is a mid to long term project, which specifically has the ability to be of interest to and engage all age ranges from the local community with opportunities in employment and volunteering through to recreation and leisure.

The Project does have its core principles which set its standards and character, as with any project it has its strengths and its weaknesses.

It is very much intended to be a starting point, create debate, a germ of an idea that if welcomed by the Village could then be embellished and strengthened to create a genuinely strong community-led project.

After the early draft Proposal had been completed copies were circulated to a number of Village residents to gain valuable feedback, and the overwhelming majority very much liked the design principle of the main site being totally exempt from motor vehicles, which is very much at the heart of the proposal.

Along with all the positive feedback came the searching questions, on all areas of the proposal e.g planning, funding, access to properties etc, all very valid comments and all coming from a constructive, not divisive point of view.

Hopefully, many of these questions have now been answered within these pages.

There will undoubtedly be those who think that the Project is unachievable, unrealistic, and pie in the sky and of course they could very well be right.

However, in 1995 a Dutch born British businessman while dining at a restaurant with friends one night, relayed an idea he had been contemplating to the assembled guests at the table, he then proceeded to illustrate it to them there and then ...... on a napkin.

Sir Tim Smit's idea in his own words consisted of " A couple of decent sized greenhouses " built over a disused China clay pit.

Some six years later and at a cost of around £140 million, raised through public, private, and Lottery funding, The Eden Project finally opened its doors to the public.

Although the Lost England Project is on a much smaller scale, the Eden Project does show the extent to which funding a proposal like this is achievable.

Our passion for Heritage in the British Isles shows no sign of diminishing and remains as strong as ever, both visiting and staying in Historic locations.

So, if we have the desire and the courage to go that extra step, Northiam could well be the Village that re-establishes that all important missing link with the past.

..... If we can, then the beauty and benefits would repay the trust shown tenfold....
